Design Goals
I wanted to create a way to place this nice-looking lamp to my bed’s headboard to make it easy to turn off after reading and before going to sleep. Naturally placing the lamp on the headboard would allow it to provide ample lighting while leaving it accessible to be turned off without getting out of bed.
To create this, I used Fusion 360 to model a structure that would fit the squared-off shape of the top of my headboard. The model has multiple cavities to save on printing material while remaining strong enough to hold the lamp for as long as necessary. Originally the lamp was meant to fit nicely into the open circle in the center, but I failed to take into account where the cord came out of the lamp, specifically the bottom and not the side. To remedy this, I quickly designed and printed a simple structure to span the circular hole.
This solution has been in place for nearly a year and a half now and is holding up very well. It is extremely handy while getting ready to go to sleep. Though the simple crossbeam structure is beginning to sag, so I may design a more long-term solution.
